Restless History grew from a fascination with the First World War and a desire to share the remarkable stories found along the way. Combining historical research with thoughtful editorial design, Restless History creates tactile, visually rich books that invite readers to look closer, learn more, and continue exploring.

Restless History is an independent publishing and design project devoted to bringing the First World War back into view. Too often overshadowed by the Second World War, it brought down empires, redrew borders, and transformed millions of lives.
Through carefully researched stories, timelines, archival images, and maps, Restless History honors those touched by the war and invites new readers to discover it.
Our first publication, America Enters the War, combines history with thoughtful editorial design and tactile materials—creating a physical experience meant to be explored, remembered, and kept.

The United States and the First World War
When war engulfed Europe in 1914, the United States declared its neutrality. Less than three years later, America entered the conflict and began the enormous task of transforming itself into a nation capable of fighting overseas.
America Enters the War follows that journey—from neutrality, submarine warfare, and the Zimmermann Telegram to mobilization, the battlefields of France, the Armistice, and the peace that followed. Archival photographs, maps, timelines, and profiles of major figures bring the larger story into view.
Designed as a portable exhibition in book form, the first Restless History publication combines accessible historical storytelling with strong editorial design and tactile paper—inviting newcomers and knowledgeable readers alike to look closer at America’s experience of the Great War.
